Providing advance notice of the next tsunami
More than 100 high-tech buoys from Fugro Oceanor in Trondheim are bobbing about on every ocean on the planet. The buoys monitor the environment, help us develop new ways to produce clean energy, and give us advance notice of the next tsunami.
Not only do they sit on the surface, they can also be found at depths of up to 5,000 m. Yellow devices packed full of technology from Trondheim collect vast quantities of data from the sea and air, and transmit it to users in Sweden, Australia, India, Peru, Turkmenistan and over 30 other countries.
Fugro Oceanor’s products collect data about slow climate changes, predict next week’s weather and pick up on tremors ahead of sudden natural disasters. They do everything from saving lives to helping us learn how we can one day build effective wave and tidal power plants.
